Aromatherapy Methods

The powerful healing properties of some common, natural scents have long been documented. As aromatherapy rises in practice and popularity, many people wonder exactly how to go about trying out this fragrant relaxation and healing technique. The truth is there are many different aromatherapy methods. This is not a single way proposition.

Which of the aromatherapy methods is most beneficial and which is the least likely is a matter of personal choice. Some of the most common ways to enjoy aromatherapy include:

Massage
This is one of the most popular aromatherapy methods. The benefits of the oils are believed to be doubled by allowing for diluted but direct application. The nose can smell the scents while the body tends to absorb them. This aromatherapy method involves the use of a small amount of essential oil added to a massage agent, such as lotion, cream or other oil.

Bath Water
Adding essential oil to a warm bath at the end of the day is also one of the more popular aromatherapy methods. Only a few drops of oil need to be added to a tub for maximum benefits. It is possible here to create a blend of oils, as well. Some of the most popular oils to use in this aromatherapy method are lavender, chamomile and sandalwood. Citrus and others are also quite common in this application. It is important to note, however, with any direct application of essential oils to the body, even diluted, there are chances for allergic reaction. Proceed with caution when trying new oils, just to be sure.

Candles
This is one of the most common aromatherapy methods due to it ease of use. This form of aromatherapy involves nothing more than the burning of specially scented candles. The therapy takes place by the inhaling of the oils' scent. There's a bonus feature to this particular method, too, that comes in thanks to the scent the candles leave behind in a room.

Diffusers
Similar to how the candle method works, this one involves actually burning or heating drops of essential oil. The result is a diffusion of the scent throughout a room, offering up many of the benefits of aromatherapy.

Other aromatherapy methods can include the use of hot or cold compresses with small amounts of oil added, steamers, shampoo and conditioner use and even air fresheners.

Of all the aromatherapy methods, the best one to choose is the one that provides the most benefits for the person in question. Some people do not necessarily appreciate the medicinal benefits of this therapy, but they enjoy the scents and find them relaxing.
